“His mouth flew open like a two dollar suitcase!” Those are the words dad used to describe somebody who was surprised, amazed or delighted. I grew up on a steady diet of Lewis' Texas talk. Even though we lived a world away in California his twangy Texas wit never flagged. Perhaps, it's in dad's honor that I have amassed a collection of two dollar suitcases.
I also have a collection of diaries, journals and books about journals that inhabit these suitcases. I continue to be surprised and delighted with the myriad methods people invent to keep diaries, write journals, illustrate sketchbooks, jot field notes, assemble scrapbooks and log their observations and experiences. I imagine there are almost as many ways to record observations about life as there are lives.
